Thank you for that. I had a former colleague who also invited my wife and me into this scheme; we visited Nanning as well. We went through almost exactly what you described. This former colleague and his wife met with us several times. My wife and I did our homework, and I think the turning point came when we watched Madoff: The Monster of Wall Street. In the documentary, I noticed that even highly intelligent and successful people were scammed, resulting in massive losses affecting the livelihoods of people up and down the social scale. In the end, we told the couple it was a Ponzi scheme and pulled out. I believe they are still in it.

I appreciate your article.

Glad to know you stayed safe. What other new things did they say which my article didn’t capture? I’m curious what new things they are spinning up now.

They have frequent classes in Singapore. The first and the last one I attended was at an industrial park where hundreds of them, newbies as well as seasoned ones, were present. It’s a kind of presentation with statistics. I met the recruiter from China as well. A supposedly successful and charming entrepreneur gave a pep talk and encouraged Q&A and really riled up the people. Direct questions were explained away rather than explained. I can’t remember the questions now but I felt good about this event. It took me quite a few weeks to think it through and exit it. The whole setup is psychologically disarming.
